While we request a donation of $25 for each night, we do not charge for our services.

This enables any family to stay at the house, regardless of their financial situation. The actual operational cost of staying at the Ronald McDonald House is $75 a night.

Because the house is a communal living environment, guests must meet several basic health and legal thresholds to be eligible to stay.

Families who:

• The families of ill or injured children 21 years of age or younger who are receiving medical treatment in Topeka.
• Live outside the city limits of Topeka.
• Have a child receiving active inpatient or active outpatient treatment at a local Topeka hospital or medical facility.

Siblings and other family members may also stay in the room with the adult parents or legal guardians. (this is suspended because of Covid - only the parents can stay)

The family will be placed on a room request list (please note that we do not guarantee reservations).  If we do have an available room, families must check in before 8 pm.

Anyone 22 years of age or older is considered an adult and will not be turned away based on their age. Parents between the age of 18 and 21 may stay without an adult on a case-by-case basis, but we encourage them to bring an adult support person. Parents under 18 years of age must have an adult support person with them at all times.

Each family is allowed one room only. The number of people that can stay in the room depends on the size of the room available. Our rooms vary in size and sleep one to four people.

Our families can check in up to 24 hours in advance of their child's scheduled appointments, treatment, or surgery. We cannot take arrivals more than 24 hours in advance. Once a child is discharged, families must check-out within 24 hours.

Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) Guest Family Requirements
January 26 – February 28, 2022
Wearing masks is required inside the Ronald McDonald House at all times except for when
you are inside your private bedroom/bathroom or eating at the dining room table.
o Surgical masks must be covered by a second surgical or cloth mask.
o KN95 masks may be worn alone.
o Cloth masks on their own are not acceptable.
Practicing good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, including consistent use of hand
sanitizer upon entering RMHC.
Adhering to social distancing requirements, including restricted/scheduled use of kitchen,
dining, and laundry areas.
Having no visitors inside RMHC, including children and family members.
Doing your own curbside pick-up at grocery stores, pharmacies, etc.
Informing RMHC staff of illness symptoms and/or diagnosis, and COVID-19 exposure.
During the time period noted above, upon check-in guest families may not return home. If
you are spending the night at the hospital, please inform RMHC staff prior to doing so.
Please note this rule may be extended past 2/28/22 based on available COVID-19 data from
the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and/or Kansas Department of Health
& Environment (KDHE).
If you choose to return home, you must check out and may not return to RMHC through at
least 2/28/2022 unless the COVID-19 transmission risk for your home county is lower than
“high” or “substantial” as reported in the Kansas County COVID Rankings/County Ranking
Map, which is updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A determination about
potential return will be made based on available COVID-19 data from CDC and/or KDHE.
